The Croatian name RAB is first mentioned in the year 1446. And it is mentioned in a precious document about the establishment of the St. Eufemia Monastery in Campor, called after a famous Christian martyr and Greek church Saint from the III. century, from Calcedone near Carigrad. According to the legend she has been persecuted and tortured beacause of her beliefs. But nor fire, nor wild beasts could harm her. Only after a cruel execution, her body miraculously swam in a stone coffin by sea to Rovinj. It is relatively possible that her saint body touched the coast of the piqturescue bay in which would, in her honour, arise one of the most precious monuments of Rab, the Monastery of St. Eufemia.
